Routine cleanings and checkups are an essential part of maintaining healthy smiles. Children and adults should visit the dentist every six months for an exam, x-rays, and cleaning. During your exam the dentist will examine your teeth and identify any potential problems such as cavities or gum disease.

Benefits of preventative care

Taking care of your oral health at home and with regular dental visits will improve your general health throughout your life. Not only will it prevent need for treatment in your teeth, but it will prevent systemic issues as well.

With regular dental visits you will have routine cleanings, exams, and x-rays. During your routine cleaning, a dental hygienist will “clean” your teeth by removing tartar and plaque. You may also choose to have fluoride treatment to help strengthen enamel and protect your teeth from the bacteria that causes tooth decay.

Hygiene instruction is also offered during regular checkups, and you are welcome to ask the hygienist or dentist any questions you may have about maintaining healthy teeth and gums

What is Your ROle At Home?

Brushing your teeth two times a day for two minutes each and flossing once a day are great ways to care for your teeth at home.

Other products you can use to boost your homecare include swishing mouthwash, using waterpiks, avoiding acidic drinks, and avoiding smoking or tobacco products.
